Darryn Farrugia featured in
“Stick Figures” by David Hicks

Stick Figures details the professional and private lives, along with a stylistic analysis with accompanying CD and session drum charts, of drummers Stewart Speer, Darryn Farrugia, Andrew Gander, Mark Kennedy, Graham Morgan, Gordon Rytmeister and John Watson.

The seven drummers featured have been an integral part to Australian music and television history: Graham Morgan and The Don Lane Show, Darryn Farrugia and Hey, Hey it's Saturday; Mark Kennedy drumming for the likes of Renee Geyer, Marcia Hines and Dragon; John Watson drumming for Daryl Braithwaite and James Reyne.

With Stick Figures, the value of the book is not only seen in the study of session drumming grooves, but the true value and the strength of the book is found in the way each of the musicians tell their story to the author.

The interviews in the book date back to the late 1990's; each tells a story, such as overcoming personal difficulties and dealing with stress in what is generally seen as a ruthless music industry.

In such a "fly-by-night" profession as the pop and rock music industry, the seven musicians celebrated in David Hicks' Stick Figures serves as a solid drumming reminder that strength of character, persistence, grace and style will still always win through. For that lesson alone, up and coming students should read Stick Figures."

Each drummer has a chapter featuring -
• Interviews, with photos
• Transcriptions and analysis
• Insights from the drummer's perspective
• Equipment details
• Discography

"Stick Figures" includes a free CD to enable the reader to listen to the songs being studied.
